The Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) has approved the plan to connect Metro Lines 4 and 4A to the metro car shed at Mogharpada. The authority has recommended building 20 piers in a small creek to support an elevated approach road and a spur line linking the main metro

route to the depot.
Mumbai Metro Line 4 Connections
Mumbai Metro Line 4 covers 32.32 km from Wadala to Kasarvadavli in Thane, while Line 4A adds another 2.7 km up to Gaimukh. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), which is handling the project, proposed an elevated road between the metro line and the car depot. Since this route passes through a creek, the MCZMA earlier made it clear that no mangroves should be cut during construction.
Additional Information on Mumbai Metro
In its proposal, the MMRDA explained that the car depot is located outside the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ). A 40-metre-wide road already exists about 200 metres from the proposed depot. To connect it, MMRDA plans to build a 25-metre-wide elevated approach road with a metro spur line, crossing a 20-metre-wide nullah within the CRZ area. For this, 20 piers will be installed in the creeklet. The MCZMA, while forwarding the proposal to the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), stated that the project is essential for linking the main metro line with the Mogharpada depot, an important part of Metro Lines 4 and 4A.
The MCZMA also cleared JSW Dharamtar Port Pvt Ltd's plan to expand the Dharamtar Jetty. The jetty was approved in 2015 for 1,750 metres, of which 1,050 metres and nine berths are already in use. The expansion will support a nearby steel plant and raise cargo capacity to 54 million tonnes per year. Both projects were approved with strict conditions, no mangrove cutting, maintaining a 50-metre buffer, and no debris dumping in CRZ zones.
