The Maharashtra state government has officially approved a new metro route for Mumbai that will connect the city's existing international airport with the new Navi Mumbai International Airport. This decision was made by the Cabinet Infrastructure Committee, a high-level government group that plans major infrastructure projects.

Mumbai Metro Line 8
This new metro line, known as Mumbai Metro Line 8, also sometimes called the Gold Line, will be about 35 kilometres long and have 20 stations along its path. Out of these, six stations will be built underground, while the other 14 will be on elevated tracks above the roads.
New Mumbai Metro Line to Boost Connectivity
The new line is designed to boost connectivity between two major airports in Mumbai. Currently, traveling from Mumbai's main airport (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport) in the western part of the city to the new airport in Navi Mumbai can take a long time by road. With the metro line, this journey will become much faster and more convenient, with travel expected to take around 30 to 35 minutes.
Timelines for the Project
The state government has set timelines for the project: all land acquisition, approvals, and clearances should be completed within about six months, and construction should be finished within three years after that.
This project is a major infrastructure step for the region, aimed at making daily transport easier for passengers and supporting the planned growth of the area around both airports. It is also part of broader efforts to improve urban transport and handle the increasing number of people using air travel in and out of Mumbai.
