These bridges will be constructed under MMRDA's Multi-Modal Integration (MMI) initiative. The planned locations include Dahisar Toll Naka and Miragaon on the Western Express Highway, as well as Kashigaon, Shivar Garden, Maxus Mall, Veg Sagar Hotel, and Sai Baba Nagar on the Mira-Bhayandar Road. Officials said that crossing these busy roads is often difficult and risky due to heavy traffic and wide road stretches. The new foot overbridges will provide safe and convenient crossing points for pedestrians, reducing the chances of accidents.

The bridges will be between 80 and 145 metres long and will have a standard width of three metres. To ensure easy access for all commuters, each bridge will be equipped with lifts and staircases. CCTV cameras will also be installed to improve security and monitor activities on the bridges.

How will Mumbai Metro Footbridges Help Passengers?

According to MMRDA, the FOBs will help passengers reach Metro Line 9 stations more easily and safely. They are expected to improve commuters' movement, especially during peak hours, and provide better last-mile connectivity. The authority believes that these facilities will encourage more people to use the metro while reducing the need to cross busy roads at traffic signals. This could also help improve traffic flow on the surrounding roads.

Mumbai Metro Line 9 & 7

Metro Line 9 is an extension of Metro Line 7 and connects Dahisar East with Mira-Bhayandar. The first phase of the corridor started operations on April 7 this year, while the remaining work is in progress. MMRDA officials said the bridges are being planned so that safe pedestrian access is available from the very beginning of full metro operations.

MMRDA Commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee said the project is focused on improving station accessibility and making travel safer and more convenient for commuters.
