Mumbai is poised for a transformative upgrade to its public transport network. By the end of 2025, the city is set to launch four new Metro corridors, significantly expanding its rapid transit reach. Complementing this development is the upcoming Mumbai One app, designed to streamline travel across various modes of transportation.

The Mumbai One app will integrate 11 key transport services-including suburban railway lines (Central, Western, and Harbour), all Metro lines, the Monorail, and buses operated by BEST, TMT, KDMT, MBMT, and NMMT. With user-friendly features like map-based route planning and a unified QR code for seamless travel across systems, the app aims to enhance convenience for daily commuters and promote the goals of the Digital India initiative.

Metro Network Expansion
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is spearheading the development of an extensive 12-line Metro network covering a total of 337.1 km across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). At present, four Metro lines totaling 58.9 km are operational, while construction is underway on eight additional lines spanning 165.7 km.
One key addition is Metro Line 9 (Red Line)-a 10.5 km elevated extension connecting Dahisar to Mira Bhayander. A segment from Dahisar to Kashigaon is slated for launch by December 2025. Line 9 will provide vital connectivity to existing Metro Lines 2A and 10. As of now, construction progress stands at an impressive 98% completion.
Upcoming Metro Lines
Metro Line 2B (Yellow Line) spans 23.64 km, connecting DN Nagar to Mandale and passing through key hubs like BKC, Kurla, and Chembur. A portion of this corridor, from Mandale to Diamond Garden, is scheduled to become operational by late 2025. Trial runs are currently in progress, and construction work has reached approximately 78% completion.
Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line) is Mumbai's first fully underground Metro corridor, running from Colaba to SEEPZ. A 9.77 km section was inaugurated in May 2025, and another 11.57 km stretch, from Cuffe Parade to Aarey, is expected to open by August 2025. Civil works on this segment are nearly complete, with 99.86% progress reported.
Additional Developments
Metro Lines 4 and 4A (Green Line), covering a total of 35.32 km, will connect Wadala to Kasarvadavli and Gaimukh. A key section between Gaimukh and Cadbury Junction is expected to become operational by early 2026, with over 84% of construction work already completed.
In a parallel development, the MMRDA has completed the Mandale Metro depot, which now hosts India's largest Metro training facility. The center features advanced simulators and offers comprehensive staff training and skill development programs under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY).
These major upgrades to Mumbai's public transportation infrastructure are designed to enhance connectivity, efficiency, and commuter convenience, while also supporting national goals related to digital transformation and workforce upskilling.
