Mumbai commuters have a reason to smile as the city takes a big step toward a smoother travel experience. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has launched the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) for Mumbai Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line. Starting Wednesday, passengers can use this contactless RuPay card to travel from Aarey JVLR to Acharya Atre Chowk without waiting in long queues at ticket counters.

This card is part of a larger plan to bring all public transport systems in Mumbai under one common card. It works not only on Metro Line 3 but also on other important lines like Metro Line 1, Line 2A, Line 7, and even on Chalo Buses. The aim is to make commuting easier and faster for everyone.
Seamless Travel Experience
The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRC), in partnership with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and the State Bank of India (SBI), is managing this smart travel project. People who already have an NCMC card from SBI or other providers can begin using it on Metro Line 3 right away.
New commuters can get a card for free at any Metro Line 3 station or from selected SBI branches. A minimum top-up of Rs 100 is required, and the card can hold up to Rs 2,000. This makes traveling not only convenient but also cash-free and safe.
Words from the MMRC
MMRC Managing Director Ashwini Bhide shared her thoughts on this new system. She said the NCMC card is a big step toward making travel smarter and simpler for Mumbai's people. Line 3, being the city's first fully underground metro line, is built with modern, future-ready infrastructure. She added that this new card system fits perfectly with the vision of better urban transport.
Future-Proof and Commuter-Friendly
The NCMC launch supports the Government of India's mission to create a single card that works for all types of travel across the country. With help from NPCI and SBI, MMRC is working to make public transport in Mumbai efficient, comfortable, and commuter-friendly.
