Mumbai Metro 3, BKC to Worli to Begin Operations Soon; Check Details

Mumbai, India's financial hub, is set to take a big leap in improving its metro network. The Mumbai Metro 3 line, which will connect Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) to Worli, is expected to begin operations in just three months. This major announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, marking an important step forward in enhancing the city's public transport infrastructure.

Mumbai BKC to Worli Metro to Begin

At the same time, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has urged officials to speed up metro projects across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) zones. He emphasized the importance of avoiding delays and revealed ambitious plans for metro expansion. "From next year, 50 km of metro lines will be initiated annually, and this year, at least 23 km will be operational. Metro-3 alone will add 20 to 25 km to the network," Fadnavis said, underlining the government's commitment to improving urban mobility.

Mumbai Metro 3: Transforming Urban Transit

The Metro Line 3, also called the Aqua Line, stretches 33.5 km from Navy Nagar in South Mumbai to the Aarey Depot in the northern part of the city. This line includes ten stations, nine of which are underground, and passes through important locations, including BKC and Aarey. The project, built at a cost of ₹14,120 crore, aims to ease the daily commute for Mumbai's residents by reducing traffic congestion and providing a faster, more comfortable alternative.

Metro Line 3 is not just about connecting two points; it's a project designed to integrate Mumbai's center with its suburbs. It will connect with other public transport systems such as metro lines, monorail, suburban and inter-city rail, and even the Mumbai International Airport. This integrated network is expected to make travel across the city smoother and more efficient.

Pune Metro Extends Service Hours

Meanwhile, Pune is also taking steps to improve urban mobility. By the end of January 2025, Pune Metro services will extend their operational hours to 11 PM. Currently, the last trains on the Vanaz-Ramwadi and Pimpri-Swargate corridors run at 10 PM.

The one-hour extension will benefit late-night travelers, including those arriving from the airport, railway station, or working late shifts. The plan includes six extra trips after 10 PM on both routes, with trains running at 10-minute intervals, reducing wait times and enhancing convenience.

These developments in Mumbai and Pune demonstrate a growing focus on improving public transport to tackle urban congestion and make city travel more efficient. With enhanced metro services, residents and visitors can look forward to faster, more comfortable, and accessible urban travel options.
