Two new metro stretches in Mumbai are set to open by the end of this month, according to officials from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), and parts of Metro Line 9 and Metro Line 2B will become operational by December 31. The sections being opened belong to the

first phase of both projects. On Line 9, the stretch between Dahisar East and Kashigaon will start functioning. On Line 2B, the part between Diamond Garden and Mandale in Mankhurd will also be ready for public use.
Approval of Metro Line 9
Sources said the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) is expected to approve Line 9 soon, especially because authorities want to complete the formalities before the model code of conduct for local body elections comes into effect. It is also likely that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate these new metro sections.
Metro Line 9 is an extension of Line 7. It covers 13.58 km and forms an elevated corridor linking Dahisar East with Mira-Bhayandar. Line 2B runs from DN Nagar to Mandale and is still under construction. Trial runs are currently taking place on the first phase of Line 2B, which is a 5.3-km section between Mandale and Diamond Garden in Chembur.
Mumbai Metro Line 2B
MMRDA also plans to open the second phase of Line 2B, stretching from DN Nagar to Saraswat Nagar in Khar by next summer. After this, the only remaining portion will be the central stretch between Saraswat Nagar and Diamond Garden. When the entire 23.6-km Line 2B is completed with its 20 stations, it will provide Mumbai with an important additional east-west metro link, helping ease traffic and improving connectivity across key parts of the city.
