Mumbai's Coastal Road is now operational every day of the week, providing a much-needed solution to the city's traffic issues. The road will be open from 7 AM to midnight daily, helping commuters travel more smoothly across key parts of the city. This change is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve connectivity.

Route and Accessibility
The Mumbai Coastal Road connects Marine Lines to Worli, extending further to Bandra via the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Commuters can now access both the northbound and southbound routes every day, offering a quicker and more efficient option for travel within the city. However, certain vehicles are not allowed to use this road. Heavy vehicles, such as trailers, mixers, tractors, and goods vehicles, are banned. Additionally, two-wheelers, bicycles, three-wheelers, animal-driven carts, and pedestrians are prohibited from using the Coastal Road for safety reasons.
Speed Limits and Safety
Different sections of the Coastal Road have varying speed limits to ensure safety. On straight stretches, the speed limit is 80 km/h, while in tunnels, it drops to 60 km/h. At turnings, the limit is 40 km/h, and at merging points, it is reduced to 30 km/h. These measures are in place to ensure a safe and smooth driving experience for all users.
Recent Changes and Toll Introduction
The decision to keep the Coastal Road open daily follows a successful trial during the Ganeshotsav festival, where the road operated 24/7 from September 7 to 18. After seeing how well it worked during the festival, authorities decided to make it available every day.
Starting from September 13, 2024, toll charges were also introduced. Commuters using the road must pay ₹100 at the Bandra exit, which coincided with the opening of the final stretch connecting the Coastal Road to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.
Impact on Traffic
This development is a significant step toward reducing Mumbai's notorious traffic congestion, especially during peak hours. By offering a dedicated route for faster travel, the Coastal Road will ease the burden on other major roads, leading to a smoother journey for Mumbai's daily commuters.
The operational hours and restrictions in place reflect the city's efforts to balance efficiency with safety, making this new road an important part of Mumbai's transportation system. Commuters can now look forward to an easier, faster, and more convenient way to travel across key parts of the city.
