India is making significant strides in its transportation infrastructure with the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, commonly known as the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train. The primary goal of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train is to connect two major cities with a high-speed rail line, significantly reducing travel time. The entire route spans 508.17 kilometers and includes 12 stations. These stations are located in Mumbai (Bandra Kurla Complex), Thane, Virar, Surat, and Bharuch, among others. Once operational, the bullet train will travel at a peak speed of 350 km/h, allowing passengers to cover the distance between Mumbai and Ahmedabad in less than 3 hours. Project Timeline
The project is progressing in phases. The 352 km section in Gujarat is expected to be fully operational by 2027, with a 50 km stretch from Surat to Bilimora anticipated to open as early as August 2026. The complete route, including the section to Mumbai, is planned to be ready by the end of 2028. This phased approach allows for gradual implementation and testing of the high-speed systems.
Kolak River Bridge Completion
One of the significant milestones recently achieved in the project is the completion of the bridge over the Kolak River in Valsad district, Gujarat. This 160-meter-long bridge is a crucial component of the high-speed rail corridor. It is located between the Vapi and Bilimora stations, approximately 7 kilometers from Vapi and 43 kilometers from Bilimora.
The Kolak River bridge features four full-span girders, each spanning 40 meters. This achievement marks progress in the project's construction, with nine out of the 24 planned river bridges already completed. Other rivers that will have bridges as part of the project include Par, Auranga, Purna, Mindhola, Ambika, and Venganiya in Gujarat.
Gorwa-Madhunagar Flyover Bridge in Vadodara
Another recent accomplishment is the completion of the Gorwa-Madhunagar flyover bridge in Vadodara. This bridge is a key part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project. It is located about 4 kilometers from the bullet train station in Vadodara, towards Ahmedabad.
The Gorwa-Madhunagar flyover bridge has a total span length of 40 meters, divided into 17 segments. The pier supporting the bridge is 18 meters high, and the entire structure weighs 1,078 tonnes. The bridge itself stands 8.7 meters above the existing flyover, which is 16 meters wide. During construction, strict safety measures were taken, including hard barricading, traffic diversion signage, and sufficient traffic marshals to ensure the safety of both workers and the public.
