India is on the verge of a major change in its transportation system, thanks to the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project. This ambitious project represents a big leap towards high-speed rail travel in the country. Recently, the project made an important breakthrough as the land required for the train line, covering 1,389.5 hectares, has now been fully acquired. This announcement was made by Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in July, marking a key milestone in the project.

Construction Progress
Significant construction progress has also been made. So far, 350 kilometers of pier foundations have been completed, along with 316 kilometers of pier construction and 221 kilometers of girder casting. In addition, 190 kilometers of girders have already been launched. These achievements show the speed at which this project is moving forward.
Another important part of the project is the construction of a 21-kilometer undersea tunnel, which is now underway. This tunnel will play a key role in improving the connectivity and efficiency of the bullet train line. The undersea tunnel is a first for India and will be an engineering marvel once completed.
The Narmada River Bridge
One of the most remarkable structures being built for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train is a 1.4-kilometer-long bridge over the Narmada River in Gujarat. This will be the longest river bridge on the Gujarat section of the project. The bridge is being constructed with deep well foundations, which are designed to handle heavy loads on tough terrains.
The bridge will have 25 well foundations, with the deepest foundation reaching an incredible 77.11 meters, which is even taller than the famous Qutub Minar in Delhi, which stands at 72.5 meters. This incredible feat of engineering highlights the advanced technology and detailed planning that is going into this project.
Noise Reduction Measures
In addition to the engineering achievements, efforts are also being made to reduce the environmental impact of the project. The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has started installing noise barriers along the train corridor. These barriers, which are 2 meters high and weigh between 830 and 840 kilograms, are designed to minimize the noise produced by the high-speed trains.
The noise barriers work by reflecting and dispersing the sound created by the aerodynamic movements of the train. This will help to reduce the noise pollution in areas close to the train line, showing that the project is committed to ensuring the well-being of local communities.
