Morshing Village, nestled in the scenic West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, recently shone on the national stage by clinching the 3rd position in the Best Tourist Destination Awards. This accolade was particularly significant as it recognized the village's Outstanding Contribution to Sustainable and Responsible Tourism Practices. This honor was bestowed by the Department of Tourism, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, underscoring the village's commitment to preserving its natural beauty while welcoming tourists.
The awards ceremony saw a notable attendance, including Tseten Chombey, HMLA of Kalaktang, who served as the Chief Guest. Chombey's speech emphasized the importance of community involvement in leveraging the area's tourism potential. He encouraged not just Morshing but also its neighboring villages, Domkho and Sanglem, to actively engage in tourism development efforts. His message was clear: harnessing the region's potential would require concerted community action.
Shargaon Village: A Beacon for Community-Led Tourism
In his address, Chombey highlighted Shargaon Village as a prime example of community-led tourism success. "Shargaon has become one of the most desirable tourist destinations in the region through collective effort," he stated, urging other villages to emulate Shargaon's model. Chombey pointed out that while government support was available, the impetus for innovation and hard work had to come from the community itself. This approach not only fosters a sense of ownership among villagers but also ensures that tourism development aligns with local values and sustainability goals.
Chombey also took the opportunity to inspire the younger generation to take advantage of government schemes aimed at boosting entrepreneurship and tourism, such as the Deen Dayal Swavalamban Yojana and CM Prayatna Yojana. He showcased the region's potential for religious tourism, citing attractions like the ancient Lhagyala Gompa and the historical site of the 1962 Indo-China war, a testament to over 200 soldiers' sacrifices.
During the event, Chombey received three memorandums from the local community and inaugurated the Lama Tenpai Dronmey Museum in Morshing. He lauded Rinchin Norbu for his initiative in establishing the museum and pledged support for its further development, including donations of a generator, showcases, and carpeting. This gesture highlighted the government's commitment to supporting local initiatives that contribute to the area's cultural and historical preservation.
Sustaining Tourism with a Vision
The event also saw the presentation of the Vision 2047 for Morshing Village by LW Bapu. This ambitious plan outlines the community's commitment to fostering cultural, religious, and adventure tourism while ensuring environmental sustainability and cultural preservation. The vision underscores the community's long-term commitment to developing tourism in a manner that benefits both locals and visitors.
The ceremony was enriched by vibrant cultural performances, showcasing the rich traditions of Morshing and its neighboring villages. Cultural troupes from Bhutan and Tawang, including performers of the famous Yak Dance, added to the festive atmosphere, illustrating the region's diverse cultural tapestry.
TN Glow, MLA of Thrizino and Guest of Honour, along with other dignitaries, addressed the gathering, further highlighting the collective effort towards making Morshing and its surrounding areas premier tourist destinations. Their messages underscored a shared vision for the region's future as a globally recognized spot for responsible and sustainable tourism.
