Monsoon Alert: IMD Predicted Rains, Thunderstorms, Etc In These States, Check Dates

During this time of year, the northwest of India, which includes the states of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, west Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, & east Rajasthan, has a distinctive rainfall pattern. On July 30, the meteorological service forecasted mild to moderate, generally widespread rainfall in this region, with isolated heavy rains anticipated in some regions.

The Himachal Pradesh region receives a lot of rain during the monsoon season because it is situated in the foothills of the Himalayas. The orographic effect is enhanced by the mountainous topography, which causes the clouds to ascend and condense, increasing precipitation. The agriculture of the area depends on this significant amount of rain because it promotes the development of crops like rice, maize, & wheat. Excessive rainfall, however, can also cause landslides and flash floods, endangering both infrastructure and human lives.

Since the beginning of the monsoon on June 24, at least 187 persons have died in rain-related accidents and traffic accidents in Himachal Pradesh alone. According to government records, 34 persons are missing. According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, over 702 homes in Himachal have been completely destroyed by flooding while 7,161 have only suffered partial damage.
