The testing of the 23-kilometre Shivajinagar-Hinjewadi Metro route in Pune has been completed successfully, said Member of Parliament Murlidhar Mohol. He told reporters that once final safety checks are finished, the metro service is expected to begin soon. The metro line is part of the city's efforts to improve

public transport and ease heavy traffic on busy roads.
Updates Regarding Pune Metro Projects
Mohol also shared updates about other metro projects in Pune. He said the existing Vanaz-Ramwadi metro line will be extended to Wagholi, and the Pimpri-Chinchwad to Swargate route will be extended to Katraj. These changes are meant to expand metro coverage across more parts of the city and help commuters travel more conveniently.
Two New Routes for Pune Metro
Moreover, the Central Cabinet has approved two new routes for Pune's metro network: one between Khadakwasla and Kharadi, and another linking Manikbaug to Nal Stop. These new corridors are expected to strengthen the city's public transport system further and reduce congestion on key traffic routes.
Expansion of Pune's Airport
Mohol also spoke about airport infrastructure in the region. He said land acquisition efforts are underway for the expansion of Pune's Lohegaon Airport and for the proposed international airport at Purandar.
Opening of Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line
Officials had earlier set a target of March 31, 2026, for opening the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar metro line, but the deadline may be delayed. This is because some work on signaling systems and stations is still pending. An application for safety approval has been sent to the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety, which is needed before commercial operations can begin.
