Ahmedabad, one of Gujarat's most important cities, is preparing to take part in the nationwide civil defence mock drills ordered by the Ministry of Home Affairs. These drills will be held on May 7 across 244 civil defence districts to improve the country's ability to respond to possible threats.

Focus on Safety and Training
The goal of the drills is to test how ready people and emergency services are in case of an air attack or similar danger. Ahmedabad, being a key urban centre and a hub of industries, has been marked as a priority city. Authorities here are working hard to make sure that the drills go smoothly.
Learning to Act in Emergencies
The drills will involve air-raid sirens, sudden blackouts at night, and the hiding of important buildings using camouflage methods. Special signs and instructions will help people know what to do. There will also be training in how to safely evacuate areas during danger.

Officials will also check how well communication systems are working. Hotlines and radio contact with the Indian Air Force will be tested. Control rooms, both main and backup ones, will also be tested for readiness.

Recent Incidents Highlight Importance
This countrywide activity is taking place after a serious terror incident in Pahalgam. The government wants to make sure that cities like Ahmedabad are well-prepared. A letter from the Directorate General of Fire Service, Civil Defence and Home Guards mentioned that the drills are needed because of the changing nature of threats.

Planning and Coordination
To lead this major effort, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan held a meeting with senior officers from across the country. One NDMA official said, "We are reviewing preparedness. Loop holes to be rectified have been identified." This means that mistakes found in earlier checks will be fixed this time.
Ahmedabad officials are working with experts from both state and national levels. The aim is to make sure that not just the city centre, but also outer areas and nearby villages, are ready to respond to emergencies.
The civil defence drill in Ahmedabad is more than just practice-it's a way to make the city safer. By teaching people what to do and checking if the emergency systems work, the government is making sure that Ahmedabad is prepared for any crisis. This drill is a step towards a safer and more prepared India.
