in stages. Line 2A, which runs from Dahisar to DN Nagar in Andheri West, is already running. Line 2B will extend the route further from DN Nagar to Mandale in Mankhurd. Trial runs have started on its first section, a 5.3 km stretch between Mandale and Diamond Garden in Chembur, and are expected to open by December.

New Metro Lines and Metro Stations

MMRDA also plans to launch the second section, from DN Nagar to Saraswat Nagar in Khar, by next summer. After that, only the middle section between Saraswat Nagar and Diamond Garden will be left. Once fully completed, the entire 23.6 km Line 2B with 20 stations will become the city's second east-west metro link. Currently, only Metro Line 1 (Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar) connects both sides. Stations likely to open in phase 2 include ESIC Nagar, Prem Nagar, Indira Nagar, Nanavati Hospital, Khira Nagar, and Saraswat Nagar. These are busy areas along Link Road and SV Road. The remaining central part will cover nine more stations in Bandra (West), BKC, Kurla, and Chembur. However, no clear deadline has been given yet.

Even though the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety has approved Phase 1, officials stated they are doing extra checks before opening it to the public. People living in Chembur are eager for services to start, as they have been watching empty trains during trials. The total cost of Line 2B is nearly ₹11,000 crore. The project has encountered delays due to contractor issues, power lines shifting, and bureaucratic problems. Meanwhile, MMRDA has also made temporary schedule changes on Metro Lines 2A and 7 for integration work with the upcoming Metro 9.
