Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has started testing the prototype train for the upcoming Pink Line of Namma Metro. The first trial runs were conducted on Friday on the elevated track between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere along Bannerghatta Road. The prototype train was delivered to BMRCL by BEML in December.

Bangalore Metro Phase 2 Project
As part of Phase 2 of the metro project, BMRCL is constructing the 21-kilometre-long Pink Line corridor from Kalena Agrahara in the south to Nagawara in the north. This corridor includes a 13-kilometre underground stretch between Dairy Circle and Nagawara. The elevated section between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere is expected to open by mid-2026, while the entire Pink Line is planned to be completed by December 2026.
Testing of New Trains
A senior BMRCL official said that the testing and certification process for the new trains will take around six months. After that, approvals will be needed from different government and safety agencies. During Friday's trial, the train was run at a very slow speed on the main track. In the coming weeks, more detailed tests related to the train's performance will be carried out step by step. Commercial services can begin only after all required approvals are obtained.
Mainline Testing
According to an official statement, mainline testing is an important step before launching services. It helps check how the train and metro systems work together under real conditions. The tests will cover areas such as acceleration and braking, stability at different speeds, and coordination with signalling, power supply, and communication systems.
Delivery of the Second Pink Line Train
BMRCL officials stated BEML is expected to deliver the second Pink Line train by the end of January, and a total of six trainsets by March. Under the agreement, BEML will supply 318 metro coaches for both the Pink Line and the Blue Line, which connect Silk Board to Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport. Civil and signalling works on the Pink Line are progressing well.
