Metro Line 8 will be part of MMRDA's 337-km regional metro master plan, which aims to link major growth centres across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The corridor will offer a direct metro connection between the two airports, reducing dependence on road traffic for airport transfers.

According to the detailed project report, the alignment will include 11 stations inside Navi Mumbai limits. After crossing the Vashi Creek bridge from Mankhurd, trains will follow the Sion-Panvel Highway through Vashi, Sanpada and Juinagar, serving dense residential and commercial zones along the corridor.
