The city of Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala will observe a holiday on November 22, 2025, because of the annual Uroos festival at Beemapally Dargah Shareef. The decision, announced by the District Collector, means that all state government offices and schools within the limits of the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation will remain closed

for the day. While government offices and educational institutions will be closed, self-government and election-related offices will continue their work, as there are nomination filings and other operations underway linked to upcoming local body elections.
Uroos Event
The Uroos event at Beemapally is from November 22 through December 2. The festival honours Sufi traditions and features prayers, processions, and gatherings at the shrine. Uroos (also spelt Urs or Urus) marks the death anniversary of a Sufi saint, and is celebrated at his or her shrine with religious ceremonies and communal activities. For the Beemapally Uroos, the shrine commemorates the saintly figure of Beema Beevi and her son.
Why Is It Declared a Holiday?
Officials have emphasised that the holiday has been declared to allow devotees to participate in the festival and for the city to manage the celebrations smoothly. Since the festival draws large crowds, the break in regular work helps ensure better arrangements and public convenience.
Residents and visitors in Thiruvananthapuram are advised to plan, as the holiday affects public offices and schools, and the festival is expected to bring increased activity in the Beemapally area.
