MahaMetro has started preparing and implementing Land Use Action Plans under the Transit-Oriented Development policy to change Nagpur's Metro corridors into dense, well-connected growth zones. MahaMetro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar announced it during Session-2 of the Global Capability Centres meet at the Advantage Vidarbha event on Sunday.

Redesign of Areas Around Metro Stations
Hardikar said that areas within 500 metres of Metro stations will see more development and better land use. The LAPs aim to redesign areas around Metro stations into modern urban hubs with easy connections between different transport modes and quicker last-mile travel. These station zones will support mixed-use development, offices, colleges, shops, hospitals, and homes will be built close to public transport. He added that Global Capability Centres are expected to come up along these corridors, due to their direct Metro connectivity.
Nagpur's Urban Development
He also stressed that building infrastructure alone is not enough to attract and retain top talent. According to Hardikar, cities hoping to attract GCCs must offer a good quality of life, especially for young professionals. This includes entertainment options, cultural spaces, and a lively city atmosphere. "GCCs will come where there is life," he said, pointing out that people continue to move to big cities despite problems like water shortages, mainly because those cities offer better social and lifestyle facilities. He said creating this livability factor is the most important step in Nagpur's growth journey.
Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) chairman Sanjay Meena said the New Nagpur Business District is being developed to solve the city's long-standing issue of not having a clear commercial centre. With help from Indian and international experts, the district is being planned as a world-class business hub.
Meena added that Nagpur is planning infrastructure for the next 20 years. This includes a new 140-km ring road, multimodal transport and industrial corridors, and dependable water and power supply. To make it easier for businesses, the city is also introducing organised land allotment and a simple, fully online single-window approval system to help Indian and foreign companies set up operations smoothly.
