The state government has announced an exciting new project for Lucknow: a Mango Park! This park will be developed by the Lucknow Municipal Corporation on 15 acres of land in Kalli West, near Kisan Path on Rae Bareli Road. The project has an estimated budget of around Rs 18 crore, as per a government spokesperson.
The Mango Park will feature an impressive 2068 mango trees, encompassing 108 different species. On Independence Day, August 15, 2024, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will plant the first saplings, marking the beginning of this vibrant project.
A Showcase of Mango Diversity
The park is part of Mission Amrit 2.0 and aims to showcase a variety of mangoes, including popular types like Amrapali, Ambika, Dussehri, and Chausa. These varieties are well-loved and will be a highlight for visitors.
Mango Museum and Mango Haat
Lucknow Municipal Commissioner Inderjit Singh has announced the establishment of a 400-square-meter Mango Museum within the park. This museum will offer visitors the opportunity to admire and taste different mangoes while also serving an educational purpose. Through digital displays, the museum will present details about 775 mango species grown across India.
In addition, a 'Mango Haat' will be set up to promote the sale of mango products. The Uttar Pradesh Horticulture Department and the Central Institute of Subtropical Horticulture, Rehmankheda, will assist in this initiative. 'Mango Kiosks' will also be established to offer visitors various mango-based treats.
Unique Features of the Park
The park will have pathways named after different mango species, illuminated by mango-shaped lights to create a distinctive ambiance. At the entrance, visitors will be welcomed by a grand stone carved in the shape of a mango. The park will also feature four mango murals and one tree mural, adding to its aesthetic appeal.
A Pond and Biodiversity
A 1930-square-meter pond will be constructed, adorned with aquatic plants such as water lilies and lotus, enhancing the park's beauty. The park will house a total of 18,828 plants, making it a biodiversity hub. Shade-giving trees like banyan, amaltas, gulmohar, and peepal will be planted along the park's boundary walls.
Using the Miyawaki method, 1260 plants from 20 different species will be cultivated within the park. These species include mango, guava, amla, jamun, maulshree, sheesham, Ashoka, hibiscus, kinnow, peepal, fig, karanja, behada, lemon, and karonda. This method will contribute to the park's greenery and ecological diversity.
Fun for Kids and Educational Value
In line with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's vision, efforts are underway to make the Mango Park appealing to children. Plans include installing 17 swings and providing benches for visitors to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
The primary goal of establishing the Mango Park is to educate people about mangoes and highlight their Ayurvedic significance. The park aims to be a place where families can learn about the different varieties of mangoes and their benefits while enjoying a day out in nature.
Grand Opening and Completion
The grand plantation ceremony is scheduled for August 15, 2024, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurating the event. The Mango Park is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, providing Lucknow residents and visitors a refreshing and educational retreat dedicated to India's beloved mangoes.
