The second phase of the Lucknow Metro Rail project has taken a big step forward. The Yogi government has approved the plan, and now the final decision is waiting for a budget from the central government. The project will move ahead after the Public Investment Board (PIB) and the Union Cabinet give their approval. A very important PIB meeting is expected at the end of April, and this meeting could give the green signal to begin the next steps, including the tendering process. The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation is already preparing for it.

Project plans and corridor details
This second phase of the metro will connect Charbagh to Vasant Kunj, covering a distance of 11.2 kilometers. The new route will have 12 stations in total. The design includes both underground and elevated metro lines to make the journey smooth and fast for passengers.
Seven of the stations will be underground. These include Charbagh, Gautam Buddha Marg, Aminabad, Pandeyganj, City Railway Station, Medical Chauraha, and Chowk. This part of the route will stretch over about 6.879 kilometers. There will also be five elevated stations: Thakurganj, Balaganj, Musabagh, Sarfarazganj, and Basant Kunj. A metro depot is also planned to be built at Basant Kunj to support train operations.
Construction timeline and goals
Although the full construction work is expected to take six years, authorities are hoping to finish it faster. If all approvals come in time from the PIB and the central government, the target is to complete the project within four years. This shows the government's strong interest in improving the public transport system in Lucknow.
How it helps the city
Right now, Lucknow Metro runs between the airport and Munshi Pulia in its first phase. This route covers a distance of 22.87 kilometers. With the addition of Phase 2, the metro line will grow to about 34 kilometers. This means more people will be able to travel easily and quickly across the city.
The expanded metro system will help reduce traffic and make travel more comfortable for everyone living in or visiting Lucknow.
