In good news for travelers in Uttar Pradesh, the much-awaited Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway is expected to open by July this year. The expressway will make travel between Lucknow and Kanpur much faster and easier, reducing the travel time to just 35-40 minutes from the current 1.5 to 3 hours.

About the Expressway
The Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway is 63 kilometers long and has six lanes, with a plan to expand it to eight lanes in the future. The expressway will start in Lucknow, go through areas like Bani, Kantha, Amarsas, and end near Azad Marg in Kanpur. This project is seen as a major improvement in road travel between two of the busiest cities in Uttar Pradesh.
Timeline and Construction Details
The foundation stone of the expressway was laid in March 2019. Later, in December 2020, it was officially named National Highway 6 in the Gazette of India. The project is being built under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model at a cost of Rs 4,700 crore. As of February 2025, about 80% of the construction work has been completed. The remaining work is expected to be finished before July 2025.
Modern Features of the Expressway
This expressway is being built with modern facilities to make travel safer and more comfortable. It will have two elevated parts between Amausi and Bani. There will be three major bridges, 28 minor bridges, six flyovers, and 38 underpasses to ensure smooth traffic flow. Entry and exit points will be placed in proper locations to help vehicles move easily. The maximum speed limit on the expressway will be 120 kmph for vehicles.
Toll Collection System
To collect tolls, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will set up five toll plazas. These will be located at Miranpur Pinvat, Khandedev, near Bani, close to Amarsas village, and near Azad Nagar. The toll plazas will be built in such a way that they do not disturb the traffic and allow a smooth journey for all commuters.
The opening of the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway will be a big step in improving road connectivity in Uttar Pradesh. It will save time, reduce traffic jams, and help in faster travel between Lucknow and Kanpur. With strong infrastructure and future expansion plans, the expressway is also expected to support economic development in the region.
