The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has approved a major renovation project at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow. This project will focus on recarpeting the runway and upgrading airport facilities. Due to this work, flight operations will be suspended from 10 AM to 6 PM daily between March 1 and July 15, 2025.

Passengers Advised to Check Flight Status
The airport has advised travelers to check with their airlines about any changes in their flight schedules. A notice on the official website states that flights will only operate before 10 AM during the renovation period. The airport authorities are taking these steps to minimize inconvenience and keep passengers informed.
IndiGo Announces New Flights to Goa
Even as runway repairs take place, air travel options from Lucknow continue to expand. IndiGo has announced the launch of direct flights from Lucknow to Goa's Mopa Airport starting March 1. This new route will provide a convenient way for travelers to visit Goa's beaches and enjoy its vibrant culture. Lucknow Airport shared this update on Twitter, encouraging passengers to book their tickets.
Impact on Flights and Passengers
The temporary closure of the runway is expected to impact many travelers. Reports suggest that more than 35 flights may be cancelled daily during this period. This could affect nearly 1.8 lakh passengers over the next few months.
In January, the airport saw high passenger traffic, with over 21 international and 109 domestic flights operating daily. More than 1.09 lakh international and 4.77 lakh domestic passengers traveled through the airport during that month. Despite the ongoing repairs, authorities are working to keep services as smooth as possible.
Ongoing Expansion and Upgrades
To improve its services, the airport is also building a new taxiway parallel to the runway. This will help speed up operations and reduce delays in the future. Lucknow Airport currently handles around 155 flights per day, connecting major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Chennai.
The airport administration has taken necessary steps to inform the DGCA and get approval for these upgrades. These improvements aim to enhance passenger experience and make travel more efficient once the work is complete.
The renovation at Lucknow Airport is an important step toward better infrastructure and smoother flight operations. While the temporary flight disruptions may cause some inconvenience, the long-term benefits will be significant. Passengers are encouraged to check their flight schedules in advance and plan their travel accordingly.
