Delhi Clears Phase V(A) Metro Expansion: Three Corridors Spanning 16km with 13 Stations

The Delhi government has approved three new metro corridors under Delhi Metro Phase V(A) after the Central government gave its clearance in December. This decision is expected to improve public transport and reduce traffic congestion across the Capital.

Costing of Delhi Metro Project phase V(A)

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the Phase V(A) project will cost about ₹12,014.91 crore. Out of this total amount, the Delhi government will contribute ₹2,940.46 crore. She added that the expansion will make travel easier, faster, and more reliable for thousands of daily commuters. The approved plan includes three metro corridors covering a total length of 16 kilometres with 13 stations. Of these stations, 10 will be built underground while three will be elevated.

Longest Corridor of Delhi Metro

The longest corridor will run from RK Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, covering 9.91 kilometres and including nine stations. This route will pass through the Central Vista area and connect important locations such as Shivaji Stadium, Central Secretariat, Kartavya Bhawan, India Gate, the War Memorial, the High Court, and Bharat Mandapam. According to the Chief Minister, this corridor will serve around 60,000 government employees and nearly two lakh daily commuters. It will also improve connectivity between West, North, Old, and Central Delhi. The estimated cost of this corridor is ₹9,570.40 crore, with ₹2,337.24 crore funded by the Delhi government.

Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Domestic Airport Terminal 1 Corridor

Another corridor will connect Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Domestic Airport Terminal 1 over a distance of 2.2 kilometres. This route will have one station and is expected to cost ₹1,419.64 crore, with ₹351.86 crore coming from the Delhi government.

Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj Corridor

The third corridor, from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj, will be 3.9 kilometres long and include three stations. It is estimated to cost ₹1,024.87 crore, with a Delhi government contribution of ₹251.36 crore.
