Lion Safari in Siliguri: West Bengal is ready to augment its wildlife tourism with a new attraction for animal lovers. The West Bengal Forest Department and North Bengal Animals Park authorities are poised to launch the state's inaugural lion safari at the animal park in Siliguri, adding another feather to the cap of this vibrant state known for its rich biodiversity.

Details of the Upcoming Lion Safari
As per recent reports, the lion safari is scheduled to commence in the first week of January next year. It will feature a pair of female lions from Alipur Zoo in Kolkata and another pair from Tripura. A spacious enclosure spanning 20 acres has been prepared for these majestic creatures, along with night shelters. The park's director, Kamal Sarkar, revealed that the construction work for the enclosure has already begun and the shelters are nearing completion.

This venture is anticipated to enhance tourism in the region, providing both domestic and international visitors with a new destination to explore. Tourists who have previously visited the park expressed their excitement at the prospect of seeing lions during their next visit. Bengal Safari, a unique open-air zoological park, spans 297 hectares on the outskirts of Siliguri, adjacent to the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary off NH10. It already houses a variety of animals including the Royal Bengal Tiger, gharial (fish-eating crocodile), Asiatic black bear, and rhinoceros. An open-air aviary also attracts bird watchers. Over the past few years, it has emerged as a significant attraction for both tourists and locals in the region.
