The Mumbai Metro network is set to grow significantly, bringing new metro connections to areas like Mira Bhayandar and Thane. This expansion is part of the city's ongoing effort to improve public transport, reduce traffic congestion, and make travel faster and easier for commuters across the metropolitan region.

Mumbai Metro Line 9
One of the key developments is Metro Line 9, which will extend from Dahisar East to Kashigaon in Mira Bhayandar. The first phase covers about 4.5 km and includes four stations. Once finished, this line will help people in Mira Bhayandar connect to other metro lines, such as Line 7 and Line 2A, making it easier to travel to major areas like the Western Express Highway and DN Nagar. It will also allow transfers to Lines 1 and 3 at key points, helping commuters reach different parts of the city. Safety checks have already started, and some sections may open soon, with the remaining stretch expected in the coming months.
Thane-Mumbai Corridor Expansion
Another major expansion is happening in the Thane-Mumbai corridor, through Lines 4 and 4A. This new section will open in parts next year. A 10.5 km stretch from Cadbury Junction to Gaimukh, along with a 2.7 km extension, will begin operations early in the year. Although there have been delays due to the special design needed for some stations, authorities are working to make further segments ready soon. Eventually, this corridor will stretch all the way to Gandhi Nagar in Vikhroli, with full completion expected by 2027.
Mumbai Metro Line 6
Moreover, Metro Line 6, a roughly 15.3 km east-west route, will connect several important places, including Andheri West, Andheri East, Saki Vihar Road, Powai, and Kanjurmarg. This line will link major transit hubs and is planned to be operational by mid-2026.
These new metro lines will greatly improve connectivity between the suburbs and central areas, giving commuters more options and helping reduce pressure on Mumbai's busy roads and local trains.
