On a remarkable Tuesday in Thiruvananthapuram, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) unveiled its innovative Royal View double-decker bus to enhance the tourist experience in Munnar. This unique bus, covered entirely in glass, offers passengers stunning panoramic views of Munnar's tea plantations and misty landscapes, creating an unforgettable sightseeing experience.
A Vision Turned Reality
The initiative, inaugurated by K B Ganesh Kumar at Anayara, is described as a dream project inspired by similar services abroad. Kumar emphasized the Royal View as a New Year gift from KSRTC to tourists, reflecting the state's evolving tourism trends post-COVID. He highlighted the increasing demand for scenic destinations like Munnar, Vagamon, and Wayanad and the bus's potential to cater to this growing interest.
Custom-Built for Scenic Travel
The Royal View double-decker was meticulously retrofitted at KSRTC's Central Workshop in Pappanamcode. Featuring glass panels on the roof and sides, colorful lighting, a music system, and a coffee vending machine, the bus offers a modern and comfortable travel experience. This Rs 40 lakh project accommodates 50 passengers, with 38 seats on the upper deck and 12 seats below, priced at Rs 400 and Rs 200 respectively.
Affordable and Accessible
Committed to budget tourism, KSRTC plans five daily 25-kilometer trips around Munnar, making the service accessible to a broad audience. KSRTC CMD Pramoj Shankar revealed that the bus's design stemmed from the minister's concept and was brought to life swiftly by dedicated staff.
Expanding Tourism Offerings
Following the success of two double-decker services in Thiruvananthapuram, KSRTC will launch another in Ernakulam next week. This expansion aligns with KSRTC's broader mission to promote Kerala's tourism by offering innovative and affordable travel options.
