KSRTC Buses in Kerala to Get Real-Time Alerts Like Kochi Metro; Check Details

Passengers traveling on KSRTC buses in Kerala will soon enjoy a more convenient and modern travel experience. Just like the Kochi Metro trains, 500 buses will soon have real-time alert systems that give updates on stops, arrival times, and any service disruptions. This new system is designed to make travel easier and more comfortable for people using public buses.

KSRTC Buses to Get Real-Time Alerts

New Features to Help Passengers

The Passenger Information Display and Automated Voice Announcement System will first be added to 400 ordinary buses and 100 super fast buses. A KSRTC official said that these systems will give audio announcements about upcoming stops in both Malayalam and English. Speakers inside the buses will announce the names of the next stops, and visual displays will also show the current and next stop on the route.

Technology That Keeps You Informed

To set up this system, KSRTC has called for tenders to license its installation and operation for two years, with an option to extend it by three more years on an annual basis. The system will include speakers for clear audio and digital screens to show real-time updates on the bus route and upcoming stops.

The system will also be used to broadcast important public messages from government departments. If proper rights are obtained, music, movie clips, and awareness messages can also be played. However, political videos will not be allowed.

Extra Income Through Advertisements

The company that wins the tender can also earn money by showing advertisements on the display screens. These ads will be played at low volume so they don't disturb the passengers or the driver. The licensee must also provide technical support all day, every day, to make sure the system works properly.

Mobile App and GPS Tracking

As part of the system, all KSRTC buses will be fitted with GPS devices that connect to a central server. KSRTC will also issue another tender to set up similar display systems at important bus stations. All this information will be connected to a mobile app called 'Where is my KSRTC', which passengers can use to track buses in real time.

This plan is a big move towards making public transportation in Kerala more modern and passenger-friendly. With better technology and up-to-date travel information, passengers across the state can expect smoother and more enjoyable journeys in the future.
