Kolkata is getting ready to launch its Yellow Line metro, which will make travel to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport faster and easier. This metro line will help reduce the heavy traffic that often slows down road travel to the airport. The Yellow Line, also called the Noapara-Barasat corridor, will connect many parts of the city and the northern suburbs directly to the airport.

Smooth Travel from City to Airport
The first part of the Yellow Line is almost ready. This 6.2-kilometre stretch will connect Noapara to Jai Hind Biman Bandar (the airport). It is expected to open for passengers in a few months. This section has four stations-Noapara and Dum Dum Cantonment, which are elevated, and Jessore Road and Jai Hind Biman Bandar, which are underground. The new line will give a faster and easier way to reach the airport than using a car or taxi.
Special Features of Jai Hind Biman Bandar Station
The Jai Hind Biman Bandar station is the most special part of this metro line. It has four levels-ground, concourse, platform, and undercroft. The concourse area is huge, with a space of 14,645 square metres. This is also the first station in India to have five platforms. These include a side platform (Platform 1), three island platforms (Platforms 2, 3, and 4), and one more platform for emergencies.
Platforms 1 and 2 will be used for the Noapara-Airport metro service. Platforms 3 and 4 will serve the New Garia-VIP Road stretch.
Metro Ready for Launch Soon
Metro officials have said that the construction of both Noapara and Jai Hind Biman Bandar stations is now complete. The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) has already given safety clearance for the part from Noapara to Dum Dum Cantonment (2.84 km) in June 2023. The next stretch of 4.20 km, which goes to the airport station, is now being inspected. Once approved, the metro will start running soon.
A Big Step for Kolkata's Travel System
The Yellow Line is a major step for Metro Railway Kolkata. It will not only improve transport in the city but also make airport travel more comfortable. This line is designed to help thousands of people every day by saving time and cutting down traffic problems.
The Yellow Line is a smart and helpful addition to Kolkata's metro system. It promises a better way to reach the airport quickly and easily for both locals and visitors.
