Kolkata Metro Railway will operate fewer train services on three major Metro lines on Friday, September 4, due to the Janmashtami holiday. However, passengers will not see any change in the timings of the first and last Metro trains on these routes.
Kolkata Metro's Revised Schedule for Janmashtami
The revised schedule will apply to the Blue, Green and Yellow lines. The Blue Line, which is one of the busiest Metro corridors in Kolkata, will operate a total of 252 services during the day. These will be divided equally between the two directions, with 126 trains running in each direction.
The Green Line will operate 212 services on the festival holiday. Of these, 106 trains will run in each direction. The Yellow Line will have 92 services in total, with 46 trains operating in each direction.
Although the number of trains will be lower than on regular working days, Metro Railway has confirmed that the first and last service timings will remain unchanged on all three lines. This means passengers travelling early in the morning or late at night will be able to use the Metro according to the existing operating hours.
Why is the Change Made?
The change has been introduced because September 4 is a public holiday for Janmashtami, when regular weekday travel patterns are expected to be different. Passengers using the Blue, Green and Yellow lines may have to wait longer between trains because of the reduced number of services.
There will be no changes to Metro operations on the Purple and Orange lines. These two corridors will continue to run according to their normal schedules. Passengers planning to travel across Kolkata on September 4 are advised to keep the revised service pattern in mind and allow extra time for their journeys.
