Bengaluru's much-awaited Pink Line Metro is getting closer to opening for passengers. A 7.5-km section between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere is ready for inauguration and could begin operations in September 2026. However, the launch is still waiting for some final approvals from the Centre.
Bengaluru Metro's Pink Line: Six Stations to be Opened
Karnataka Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda recently reviewed the route during a trial run along with Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, BMRCL Managing Director P.C. Jafar and other officials. The first section of the Pink Line will have six stations: Kalena Agrahara, Hulimavu, IIM-B, JP Nagar 4th Phase, Jayadeva Hospital and Tavarekere.
One of the important stations on this route is Jayadeva Hospital. It will provide an interchange between the Pink Line and the existing Yellow Line, making it easier for passengers to switch between the two Metro corridors.
The opening has been delayed because the trains for this section are still undergoing mandatory testing. Although sufficient trains are available, they must complete a 750-km test run before being allowed to carry passengers. Train operators have also been selected and are undergoing training.
After the Railway Board gives approval for the trains, the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) will inspect the stretch and provide the required safety clearance.
Officials are hopeful that the inauguration will take place by the end of September. Tejasvi Surya said approval for the trains is expected within the next 15 days and efforts are being made to complete the remaining formalities quickly.
