Starting December 14, 2024, Kolkata Metro will adjust its Green Line-2 (Howrah Maidan-Esplanade stretch) services to support ongoing construction between Esplanade and Sealdah stations. The changes aim to ensure passenger safety and smooth construction progress while minimizing inconvenience to commuters.

Service Changes from December 14
From Monday to Saturday, the number of services on Green Line-2 will decrease from 150 to 114. Morning and evening peak hours (9 AM to 11 AM and 5 PM to 8 PM) will see trains running every 20 minutes. During non-peak hours, train frequency will reduce slightly to every 24 minutes.
For East-bound tunnel operations between Howrah Maidan and Esplanade stations, there will be no changes. Passengers can continue their journeys without major disruptions on this route.
Adjustments to West-Bound Tunnel Services
To accommodate construction needs, West-bound services will undergo modifications. Trains will run between Howrah Maidan and Mahakaran stations every 20 minutes during peak hours. Outside these times, West-bound services will be temporarily suspended. This measure is essential to ensure construction work progresses efficiently and safely.
Sunday Services Remain Unchanged
The revised schedule will not affect Sunday operations. Green Line-2 will operate on its regular timetable, providing commuters with uninterrupted service during the weekend. This decision ensures that weekend travel plans are not disturbed.
Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited (KMRCL) assures passengers that these changes are temporary. Once the construction work is completed, commuters can look forward to improved infrastructure and enhanced metro services. Passengers are advised to plan their trips accordingly and stay updated on further announcements from the metro authorities.
These changes underline Kolkata Metro's commitment to balancing construction progress and passenger convenience, ensuring a better travel experience in the future.
