Kolkata Metro Doubles Purple Line Trains from May 5, Reduces Wait Time to 22 Minutes

The people of Kolkata will soon get better metro services. Starting May 5, the metro authority will double the number of trains running on the Purple Line between Joka and Majerhat. This is good news for daily commuters, especially those from the Behala area. Now, 40 trains will run every day instead of the current 18. This change will help reduce crowding and make travel easier.

Kolkata Metro Doubles Purple Line Trains

Shorter Waiting Time for Passengers

With the new schedule, trains will run every 22 minutes in both directions. Earlier, passengers had to wait 50 minutes between trains. The first train will leave Majerhat at 8:27 am and the first train from Joka will leave at 8:30 am. The last train from both ends will depart at 3:28 pm. This shorter gap between trains means people can now rely more on the metro to reach their destinations on time.

However, the metro services on this route will not be available on Saturdays and Sundays. A total of 40 services will operate each day from Monday to Friday, with 20 trains in each direction.

New Technology for Better Safety

To make the metro ride smoother and safer, the metro authority has also started using a new communication-based train control signalling system. This modern system will help the metro run more efficiently and with better safety. It is a big step in improving the overall metro experience for passengers in Kolkata.

Purple Line Extension Work in Progress

Currently, the Purple Line runs between Joka and Majerhat. But soon, the metro will go further. Construction work is already happening to extend the line from Majerhat to Esplanade. Once completed, this route will connect the Purple Line with the Blue Line and the Green Line. This will create a better metro network for the city and make it easier for people to travel across Kolkata without using the busy roads.

Better Commute for Behala Residents

People living in areas like Behala have been asking for better metro connections for a long time. They often face heavy traffic on the roads. With more trains and future extensions, the metro will give them a faster and more comfortable way to travel. This improvement shows that the metro authority is listening to the needs of the people and working to make daily travel better for everyone.

The new Purple Line schedule brings hope for smoother and more reliable metro rides in Kolkata.
