Kolkata Braces for Rain, Thunderstorms as Bay of Bengal Low-Pressure System Develops

A new weather change is expected in the coming days as a low-pressure system may form near the east-central Bay of Bengal. Experts say this system could turn into a depression and bring heavy rainfall and thunderstorms to several parts of India. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Kolkata has said this period from May 16 to May 22 is very important, as such weather patterns in the past five years have often turned into cyclones. Meteorologists are closely watching the system's development.

Kolkata Braces for Rain Thunderstorms

Kolkata to Get Rain and Cooler Temperatures

The city of Kolkata and many districts in West Bengal are preparing for possible rainfall due to this system. The rain is expected to bring a drop in temperature by two to four degrees Celsius, giving some relief from the summer heat. However, the rain may also cause problems such as waterlogging and power cuts, especially if it becomes heavy.

Light rain is expected in Kolkata on May 13, along with a gentle breeze. Moderate rainfall is likely on May 14. Weather officials have said that by May 15 and 16, the rain could become stronger, with thunderstorms expected as well. Residents are being advised to be ready for sudden weather changes.

Other States Also on Alert

This weather pattern is not limited to West Bengal. Gujarat and Maharashtra are also expected to receive light to moderate rainfall in the next few days. Telangana may also see thunderstorms and gusty winds, which are expected to last until May 16. The changing weather conditions across different parts of the country show the need for people to stay alert and be prepared.

Experts Say Next Few Days Are Crucial

Weather scientists are keeping a close eye on the system. One scientist told the Times of India, "It is still too early to predict how far the system will progress. We are monitoring it and will have a better idea in the next three to four days." The next few days are very important to understand how strong this system may become and where it might go.

People Advised to Stay Informed

As the weather department continues to monitor the situation, people in the affected areas are advised to keep track of weather updates. The rainfall may help cool down the weather, but it can also cause trouble such as flooding and electricity problems. Staying informed and being prepared will help everyone stay safe during this uncertain weather period.
