Good news for visitors in Fort Kochi! The Kochi Water Metro is planning to extend its service hours into the night. This means visitors and locals will have more time to enjoy the beautiful sights and experiences in Fort Kochi. Currently, the last Water Metro boat leaves at 8:00 p.m., but after positive feedback from tourists, they are considering extending it until 10:00 p.m. This aligns with the Kerala State Water Transport Department's final boat, which leaves Fort Kochi at 9:50 p.m., and the Kochi Metro's schedule, which runs until 10:30 p.m.

The recent addition of an 8:00 p.m. trip, which ends at the High Court terminal by 8:15 p.m., has already been a hit, especially with tourists. Although there were initial concerns from police due to the presence of fishing boats, Water Metro officials have worked on safety measures to make night trips possible. Now, they're confident that extending the Water Metro's service hours can be done safely. The plan to run boats until 10:00 p.m. allows visitors to explore Fort Kochi's beach, shops, and parks, which stay open late.
The Kochi Water Metro is also planning to add free Wi-Fi on its boats to make travel more enjoyable. This feature is expected to be popular with tourists, who make up a large number of passengers. Offering free Wi-Fi aims to attract more visitors, especially those who like to stay connected. Despite some technical challenges with Wi-Fi on moving boats, Water Metro authorities are optimistic about making it work soon.
Exciting new routes are also set to launch. By the first week of December, the Water Metro will expand to Mattancherry. Additionally, a new circular feeder service will connect the MG Road metro station with the High Court Water Metro terminal and Maharaja's College. This will make it even easier for tourists and locals to travel around Kochi, linking popular spots in the city.
Padmanabha Mallya, secretary of the West Kochi Passengers Association, shared that there is strong support from the community for the extended service hours. Local shops, parks, and the beach are open late, so visitors would benefit from this change and enjoy Fort Kochi at night without rushing to catch the last boat.
The Kochi Water Metro's extended night services, free Wi-Fi, and expanded routes reflect a thoughtful approach to making Kochi more tourist-friendly. These improvements are expected to boost tourism and create a more convenient and enjoyable experience for everyone visiting or living in Kochi.
