Bengaluru's much-awaited Metro connection to Kempegowda International Airport may not be ready by June 2027 as planned, as the construction work on the stretch beyond Yelahanka is progressing slowly, raising concerns about whether the airport link can meet its deadline.

Bengaluru Metro's Airport Line
The airport Metro is part of the Namma Metro Blue Line, which will connect Central Silk Board to Kempegowda International Airport. The 58.19-km corridor will pass through several important parts of Bengaluru, including KR Pura, Kasturi Nagar, Nagawara, Hebbal, Kodigehalli, Jakkur, Yelahanka, Bagaluru and Doddajala before reaching the airport.
The project has two major sections: Phase 2A covers the 19.75-km stretch between Central Silk Board and KR Pura, while Phase 2B covers the 38.44-km section from KR Pura to the airport through Hebbal and Yelahanka, and the corridor will have around 30 stations.
Bengaluru Metro's Airport Line Inclusions
While construction has made considerable progress on several parts of the route, work on the section after Yelahanka has been slower. This portion includes important locations such as Bagaluru Cross, Doddajala, Airport City and the airport terminal. The line will be mostly elevated, but special construction methods are required at some locations, including near the Yelahanka Air Force Station and the airport.
Bengaluru's Airport Metro Line to be Delayed
The project has already faced several delays due to issues such as land acquisition, tree-clearance permissions, traffic restrictions, labour shortages and other construction-related challenges. Overall construction had reached about 72% by early August 2026, with authorities working towards completing the remaining work by June 2027.
The airport Metro is expected to provide major relief to Bengaluru commuters and air travellers. It will offer a faster public transport option between the city and the airport, while also helping reduce traffic congestion on busy roads.
However, with work beyond Yelahanka still lagging, completing the entire airport link by June 2027 appears increasingly difficult. The Blue Line may therefore have to be opened in phases, with the full connection to Kempegowda International Airport potentially extending towards the end of 2027.
