Due to a steady rise in passengers and increasing demand, Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) has decided to extend Metro train services until 11 pm starting February 15, 2026. From that date, the last trains from Aluva Metro Station and Tripunithura Terminal Metro Station will leave at 11 pm instead of the current 10:30 pm schedule. This change aims to make travel more convenient for commuters.

At the same time, many residents are requesting that Metro services begin earlier in the morning. They say this will help passengers who need to catch early long-distance trains from Ernakulam Junction and Ernakulam Town railway stations. Several important trains depart from Ernakulam Junction early in the morning, and fewer private buses are now operating in the city.
Special Services for MahaShivaratri
V C Jayendran, secretary of the Tripunithura Rajanagari Union of Residents Association (TRURA), said Metro services should start at 5 am to support commuters better. Currently, Metro services begin at 6 am on weekdays and at 7:30 am on Sundays. Meanwhile, special arrangements have been made for the Shivaratri festival. On Shivaratri Sunday, the last train from Tripunithura Terminal will depart at 11:30 pm. On Monday morning, services from Aluva Metro Station will start early at 4 am and continue until 6 am, with trains running every 30 minutes. After 6 am, trains will operate as per the regular schedule.
A Metro spokesperson said that KMRL remains committed to offering safe, reliable, and passenger-friendly services, especially during major festivals and public events. The extended and special services are part of efforts to improve convenience for passengers across the city.
