Kerala is expected to see a slight reduction in rainfall intensity today, but isolated heavy showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds are still likely in select regions as weather conditions remain active across parts of the state.
The weather department has issued a Yellow Alert for four districts, while advising residents to continue exercising caution in vulnerable locations.
Yellow Alert In Four Districts
The districts under Yellow Alert today are:
- Pathanamthitta
- Kottayam
- Ernakulam
- Idukki
These districts may receive isolated heavy rainfall, generally ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours.
No rain warning has currently been issued for the remaining districts.
Thunderstorm And Wind Warning Continues
Along with rain activity, authorities have indicated the possibility of:
- Moderate rainfall in isolated areas
- Thunderstorms
- Strong surface winds reaching up to 40-50 kmph in some locations
A short-duration orange-level caution has also been indicated for isolated weather activity in parts of Ernakulam district over the immediate hours.
Public Advisory: Stay Alert In Vulnerable Areas
Residents living in landslide-prone regions, low-lying zones, riverbanks and downstream dam areas have been advised to remain alert and follow local administration instructions.
Authorities have also recommended:
- Avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall
- Stay away from overflowing rivers, streams and water bodies
- Avoid visiting waterfalls and hilly recreational areas
- Do not stop on bridges for photography or sightseeing
- Watch for falling trees, damaged poles and unstable structures
- Secure loose outdoor objects where strong winds are expected
Motorists have been advised to avoid driving through waterlogged stretches and roads near overflowing water channels.
Emergency Preparedness
People in vulnerable areas are encouraged to keep emergency essentials ready and remain updated through official alerts.
Kerala's 24-hour Taluk and District Control Rooms continue to remain operational for emergency support. Assistance can be sought through 1077 and 1070 if required.
With rainfall expected to weaken gradually, officials are still urging residents not to lower their guard, especially in districts under active alert conditions.
