Kerala's southwest monsoon has intensified, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds across several districts over the coming days. Authorities have issued red, orange and yellow alerts across the state as weather activity strengthens under the influence of cyclonic circulation over the Arabian Sea.

The advisory comes as parts of Kerala continue to record persistent rainfall, with flood and waterlogging concerns emerging in vulnerable areas.

According to IMD classifications, red alerts indicate the possibility of very intense rainfall events that may trigger flash floods, waterlogging and landslides in susceptible areas.

Strong Winds, Thunderstorms Likely; Coastal Warning in Place
Meteorological inputs indicate the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by winds reaching 40-50 kmph and occasionally up to 60 kmph along coastal stretches.
A fishing ban advisory has also been issued for the Kerala, Lakshadweep and Karnataka coasts until June 9, considering rough sea conditions and strengthening winds.
Monsoon Conditions to Continue Through the Week
Weather forecasts suggest that rainfall activity may remain active across Kerala through the week, with cloudy conditions, intermittent showers and isolated intense spells continuing in several districts.
People in hilly regions, low-lying areas and landslide-prone zones have been advised to remain cautious, monitor district advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.
Residents are advised to follow updates from local authorities and emergency services as weather conditions evolve.
