Despite pockets of the state experiencing brief showers on Sunday, Kerala is set to face blisteringly hot days ahead, with weather experts issuing a cautionary yellow alert in 12 districts until Thursday (April 11).

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised concerns over rising maximum temperatures across Kerala. Palakkad is expected to bear the brunt with temperatures soaring to around 41 degrees Celsius, while Kollam, Thrissur, and other districts are likely to experience temperatures ranging from 36 to 40 degrees Celsius.
The blistering heat, exacerbated by intense humidity, poses a health risk, particularly for vulnerable groups such as infants, the elderly, individuals with chronic illnesses, and those engaged in strenuous activities. Weather experts advise against prolonged exposure to the sun, especially during peak hours from 11 am to 3 pm, to prevent heat-related ailments like cramps and rashes.
Rajeevan Erikkulam, a meteorologist with the State Disaster Management Authority, emphasizes that unless there is widespread rainfall, relief from the oppressive heat is unlikely. The situation is compounded by the forecast of normal temperatures and below-average rainfall for Kerala during the April to June period.

Palakkad registered a scorching maximum temperature of 40.7 degrees Celsius on Sunday, underscoring the severity of the prevailing weather conditions. While Idukki and Wayanad districts may escape the worst of the heat, other regions are expected to witness temperatures surpassing the normal range by two to four degrees.
It's imperative for residents to take precautions to minimize sun exposure and stay hydrated during this heatwave. The health risks associated with prolonged exposure to high temperatures underscore the importance of adhering to safety guidelines issued by authorities.
Kerala is bracing for a prolonged spell of hot and uncomfortable weather, urging residents to take necessary precautions to safeguard their health and well-being. As the mercury soars, it's essential to stay indoors during peak hours and stay hydrated to combat the scorching heat.
