The Kedarnath Temple has reopened for devotees on April 22, marking the start of the Char Dham Yatra 2026. The temple doors were opened at 8 am after remaining closed during the winter months due to heavy snowfall in the region. Every year, the temple shuts down during winter due

to extreme weather conditions and reopens in April or May. With the reopening, thousands of pilgrims are expected to visit the shrine located in the Himalayas. However, the best time to visit Kedarnath is usually between May and June or later in September, as weather conditions are more suitable during these periods.
Kedarnath Yatra 2026, Registration Reopens
To visit Kedarnath, registration is compulsory for all pilgrims. Devotees can complete this process online through the official portal or mobile app before starting their journey. Without registration, entry beyond key checkpoints is not allowed, as the system helps manage crowds and ensures safety.
As there is no direct road access to the temple, pilgrims must first reach Gaurikund by road and then either trek around 16 km to Kedarnath or choose helicopter services available from places like Phata or Sersi. The Kedarnath Yatra is part of the larger Char Dham pilgrimage, which follows a fixed route starting from Yamunotri, then Gangotri, Kedarnath, and finally Badrinath.
Travel Arrangements for Pilgrims
Authorities have also made several arrangements to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage. Guidelines and rules have been introduced, and pilgrims are advised to follow them carefully during their visit.
