The Vande Bharat train service is set to bring a transformative change in connectivity between Katra and Srinagar, starting operations after January 20, 2025. This new route will offer a fast, comfortable, and reliable travel option, enhancing the travel experience for passengers while promoting economic growth in the region. Managed by the Northern Railway zone, this initiative marks a milestone in Indian rail transport, especially benefiting residents and visitors in the Kashmir Valley.

Engineering Marvel: Chenab Rail Bridge
The Katra-Srinagar route is part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Batamulla Rail Link (USBRL), a project celebrated for its engineering brilliance. A highlight of this project is the Chenab Rail Bridge, the world's highest rail bridge and the highest arch bridge. Located in the Reasi district, the bridge stands 359 meters above the Chenab River. Inaugurated in August 2022, this bridge connects Sangaldan and Reasi Railway stations, symbolizing India's achievements in modern engineering.
Convenient Schedules for Travelers
The train schedule is designed to meet the needs of travelers with efficiency and flexibility. The Vande Bharat Express will depart from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) at 8:10 AM, arriving in Srinagar by 11:20 AM. Two additional Mail Express trains will also operate daily on the same route. These trains will depart Katra at 9:50 AM and 3:00 PM, reaching Srinagar at 1:10 PM and 6:20 PM respectively.
For the return journey, the Vande Bharat Express will leave Srinagar at 12:45 PM and reach Katra by 3:55 PM. Mail Express trains will depart Srinagar at 8:55 AM and 3:10 PM, arriving in Katra at 12:05 PM and around 6:30 PM. This comprehensive schedule ensures passengers can choose a convenient time for their travel.
Boost for Tourism and Trade
The new rail link between Katra and Srinagar is expected to significantly boost tourism, trade, and horticulture in the Kashmir Valley. The efficient transport system will not only improve access but also open new opportunities in education and business. The train service will enhance connectivity with Delhi, offering a route departing Delhi at 7 PM and arriving in Srinagar by 8 AM.
