Karnataka: Last Date for High Security Number Plates Extended, Know How Much Time You Have

In a recent update from the Karnataka Government Secretariat, vehicle owners in the state received good news. The timeline for affixing High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) has been extended for all classes of vehicles registered before April 1, 2019. The extension comes as part of the Government Notification NO.TD 193 TDO 2021, initially dated August 17, 2023, and later on November 16, 2023.

What is the Extended Deadline?

According to the latest notification dated February 16, 2024, vehicle owners now have until May 31, 2024, to ensure their vehicles are equipped with the mandated High-Security Registration Plates. This extension provides some relief and additional time for vehicle owners to comply with the HSRP requirement.

No Other Changes in the Notification

It's important to note that, besides the extension of the deadline, there are no other alterations in the existing Notification NO.TD 193 TDO 2021, as per the announcement. Vehicle owners should refer to the previously issued notification for detailed guidelines and specifications related to HSRP installation.

Key Contacts Informed

The order, issued by Pushpa V.S., Under Secretary to Government, Transport Department, has been communicated to various key authorities. This includes the Accountant General (Audit-1 & 2) / (E & SSA) Karnataka, Finance Department, Commissioner of Transport and Road Safety, D.G. & I.G. of Police, Karnataka, and all ACT/JCT/DCT/RTO/ARTO of Transport Department.

The order has been directed to the Compiler, Karnataka Gazette, Bangalore, for publication in the Karnataka Extraordinary Gazette. Additionally, copies have been sent to the Accountant General, Addl. Chief Secretary to Government, Finance Department, and Under Secretary to Government (ZP), Finance Department for necessary action.

To ensure public awareness, the information has also been shared with the Personal Secretary to the Hon'ble Minister of Transport and Muzrai, as well as the Personal Secretary to the Secretary to Government, Transport Department. This multi-level dissemination is aimed at reaching all concerned parties and keeping them informed about the extended deadline.

This move reflects the government's commitment to facilitating a smoother transition for vehicle owners, aligning with the necessary regulations. Vehicle owners are encouraged to take advantage of this extended timeline and promptly adhere to the HSRP installation guidelines for a hassle-free and compliant vehicle registration process.
