Karnataka Introduces Statewide Online Booking for Trekking Routes

Karnataka is making big changes to help the environment. From July's third week, you can book trekking routes online. This means you can plan your trekking trips more easily and avoid any problems. Right now, you can only book some popular trekking spots online, but soon you'll be able to book all of them in one place.

The Forest Department is working hard to make this happen. They're creating new software that will make booking treks easier. They want to plant more trees too - 5 crore saplings this year! Last year, they planted 5.43 crore saplings, which is a big achievement.

The Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, has promised an extra Rs 100 crore to help with tree planting. In the Mangaluru area, 26.5 lakh saplings were planted last year, and most of them survived. This year, they've already grown 12 lakh saplings in nurseries and will plant them by July's end. They're also planting 10 lakh mangrove saplings to make the region greener.

Minister Khandre has also addressed the need to tackle environmental violations and encroachments. He has instructed officials to act swiftly against violations in the Coastal Regulation Zone and clear encroachments on forest lands by addressing legal hurdles.

Another pressing issue is the enforcement of the ban on single-use plastic. Despite efforts to seize plastic manufacturing units and other measures introduced last year, the ban has not been as effective due to a lack of awareness and staff shortages. Minister Khandre has vowed to intensify these efforts on a war footing to better protect the environment and wildlife.

As part of the upcoming Environment Day celebrations at Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on July 3, there will be 25-30 stalls aimed at raising awareness about e-waste, the benefits of sewage treatment plants, and the harmful effects of pollution on health.

Overall, these initiatives by the Karnataka Forest Department reflect a strong commitment to environmental conservation, improved regulatory measures, and enhanced public awareness to ensure a healthier and greener state.
