Karnataka Deputy CM Considers Metro Station Naming After K M Cariappa

Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, expressed his intention to discuss with the Chief Minister the possibility of naming a metro station after Field Marshal K M Cariappa. This announcement was made during an event hosted by the Kodava Samaja, where Shivakumar acknowledged the Kodavas' significant contributions to various fields and their historical role in India's independence.

Shivakumar praised the Kodava community for their responsible handling of duties across sports, politics, and law. He highlighted their immense contributions to Karnataka and India. "Kodagu and Kodavas are a jewel for Karnataka and the country," he stated, emphasizing their historical significance.

Support for Kodava Community

The government has shown its commitment to preserving culture and tradition by granting seven acres of land to the Kodava Samaja at a highly subsidised rate. This decision was made after careful consideration of the community's sacrifices and was discussed in a Cabinet meeting. The Congress party has historically supported smaller communities across India.

Shivakumar also mentioned that the government has provided land to army veterans from the Kodava community. Additionally, they have ensured representation in legislative bodies like the Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council. He urged continued support for Congress leaders Ponnanna and Mantar Gowda, acknowledging past electoral support from the community.

Progress in Kalyana Karnataka

On another occasion, Shivakumar commended Congress MLAs, MPs, and ministers for advancing "Kalyana" Karnataka's development. During a foundation stone-laying ceremony under the 'Arogya Avishkar' scheme, he remarked on the region's progress under Congress leadership. "Power is temporary, but accomplishments are permanent," he said.

The Deputy CM highlighted that within five days of taking office, five guarantees were approved by Congress leaders from Kalyana Karnataka. These leaders include Priyanka Kharge, Ajay Singh, Darshanapur, Dinesh Gundurao, Radhakrishna, B V Naik, among others. Their efforts aim to bring prosperity to the region.

Healthcare Advancements

Kalyana Karnataka now boasts one of the most advanced healthcare systems outside Bengaluru. This development is part of ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and services in the region. The government remains committed to enhancing healthcare facilities as part of its broader developmental agenda.

The Deputy CM's remarks reflect a broader commitment to recognising contributions from diverse communities while ensuring regional progress through strategic initiatives like healthcare advancements and infrastructure development.
