Traveling between Lucknow and Kanpur will soon become faster and more comfortable with the upcoming Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway. This eight-lane expressway will cut the current travel time of around three hours to just 35-45 minutes, transforming connectivity and travel experiences in Uttar Pradesh.

Enhanced Connectivity and Efficient Design
Spanning 63 kilometers, the expressway will connect Shaheed Path in Lucknow to Nawabganj in Kanpur. The route passes through Banthra, Bani, Datouli Kantha, Taura, Nyaurana, Amarsas, and Rawal Marg, linking several key areas. Additionally, it will integrate with the Lucknow Ring Road, enhancing regional connectivity and easing intercity travel.
Initially planned as a six-lane expressway, the project was upgraded to eight lanes to accommodate increasing traffic demands. The total project cost is estimated at ₹4,700 crore, highlighting its scale and importance for the region's infrastructure development.
Key Infrastructure Features
The expressway boasts impressive features to ensure safety, comfort, and efficiency. It will include:
- Three large bridges for improved accessibility.
- 28 smaller bridges and 38 underpasses for uninterrupted travel.
- Six flyovers to ensure a seamless commute.
These additions aim to minimize traffic congestion and enhance road safety, making it a world-class roadway.
Construction Progress and Timeline
As of now, over half of the expressway's construction has been completed, including the greenfield section and 75% of the elevated road. Initially set for completion in July 2025, the timeline has been expedited, with the expressway now expected to open by March 2025. This accelerated progress showcases the commitment to delivering a transformative project for commuters.
