Northern Railway is rolling out Janmashtami special trains from today, September 3, through September 6. Extra services connect Delhi hubs—Old Delhi, New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin—with Mathura, Haridwar, Varanasi, Ringas and Subedarganj. The plan mixes unreserved festival specials and reserved superfast runs to spread peak loads and shorten queues for pilgrims heading to major temple towns.
Two Mathura pairs will run unreserved between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Mathura on September 3, 4 and 5. Old Delhi gets unreserved pairs for Haridwar and Ringas over September 3–6. A reserved Delhi–Varanasi special operates two round trips, while New Delhi–Subedarganj superfast runs three days each way. The Varanasi special also halts at Ayodhya Cantt.
Special trains from Delhi to Mathura, Haridwar, Varanasi and Ayodhya — timings
Mathura services: 04410 departs Hazrat Nizamuddin 10:30, reaches 13:05; 04409 returns 13:35–16:45. The 04412 departs 09:45, reaches 12:20; 04411 returns 12:50–16:30. Haridwar pair 04413/04414 runs 23:00–04:55 and 17:00–22:00, respectively. Ringas pair 04415/04416 runs 18:50–00:40 and 02:00–07:00. Delhi–Varanasi 04446/04445 runs 21:10–15:00 next day and 20:15–11:45 next day.
New Delhi–Subedarganj 02416 departs 23:00, arrives 09:45 next day; return 02415 leaves 12:10, arrives 23:30. Listed halts include Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Tundla, Etawah, Govindpuri and Fatehpur. Coach mix is AC 2‑tier, AC 3‑tier, Sleeper and General on reserved specials. Unreserved pairs are General class only; arrive early and follow crowd marshals and platform displays at origin stations.
How to book on UTS and IRCTC; live status on NTES/139
For unreserved trips, book on UTS on Mobile or at counters; keep GPS on and buy outside geo‑fenced station zones. For reserved specials, use the IRCTC website or app; search by train number and date, then pay digitally. Check platforms and delays on the National Train Enquiry System or by calling 139 before travel.
If your e‑ticketed train is cancelled, refunds are automatic. If rescheduled by over three hours and you skip travel, claim full fare per rules. For diversions not touching your boarding station, file a Ticket Deposit Receipt online within the permitted window. Keep late‑night blocks in mind and recheck status close to departure.
The first outward trips start today, with last return legs on Sunday, September 6. For smoother boarding, reach gates 45 minutes early, keep PNR and ID handy, and verify platforms on NTES screens at Old Delhi, New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin. These extras should thin crowds on peak darshan hours across Mathura, Haridwar and Ayodhya.
