On June 21, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will celebrate International Yoga Day in Srinagar. This special day will be marked with a grand event at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC). The Prime Minister will address the gathering and join a yoga session at the picturesque venue along Dal Lake. This visit also marks his first trip to the region after assuming office for his third term. Strict security measures are in place for the event, with over 7,000 participants expected to perform yoga on the beautiful banks of Dal Lake.

The SKICC, designed by the famous architect Joseph Stein, is a modern conference center located on the Boulevard Road that circles Dal Lake. This state-of-the-art venue spans 30,000 square feet and includes several meeting rooms and event spaces. It is conveniently located near the Srinagar International Airport and the central city of Srinagar, making it an ideal location for international conferences.

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will participate in the 'Empowering Youth, Transforming J&K' event at SKICC. He will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth over ₹1,500 crore. Among these projects is the Competitiveness Improvement in Agriculture and Allied Sectors Project (JKCIP), valued at ₹1,800 crore.
According to the Press Information Bureau, the Prime Minister will begin the day at around 6:30 AM by participating in the 10th International Day of Yoga event at SKICC. He will address the gathering and then join the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) session.
The day will also include the inauguration and foundation laying of 84 major development projects in Jammu and Kashmir. These projects include improvements in road infrastructure, water supply schemes, and higher education infrastructure. Specific projects like the improvement of the Chenani-Patnitop-Nashri Section, the development of Industrial Estates, and the construction of six government degree colleges will also be initiated.

This year's Yoga Day event emphasizes the significant impact of yoga on young minds and bodies. The celebration aims to unite thousands of people in the practice of yoga, promoting health and wellness globally. Since 2015, Prime Minister Modi has led the International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebrations at various iconic locations. These include Kartavya Path in Delhi, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Ranchi, Lucknow, Mysuru, and even the United Nations Headquarters in New York. This year, the event in Srinagar will encourage grassroots participation and the spread of yoga in rural areas.

The event on June 20, 'Empowering Youth, Transforming J&K,' will be a pivotal moment for the region. It will showcase progress and provide inspiration to young achievers in Jammu and Kashmir.
