Indian Railways Unveils Longest 20-Coach Vande Bharat Express For Mumbai-Gandhinagar Route

Indian Railways has expanded the Mumbai-Gandhinagar Vande Bharat Express to a 20-coach configuration, increasing seating capacity and improving passenger comfort. This initiative addresses high demand and enhances operational efficiency on this busy route.

In a significant move to manage the growing demand on one of its busiest corridors, Indian Railways has announced an expansion for the Mumbai-Gandhinagar Vande Bharat Express. This train will now feature a 20-coach configuration, marking it as the longest Vande Bharat rake ever to be deployed. Previously, the Vande Bharat trains were operational with either 8 or 16 coaches. The expansion to a 20-coach train, specifically on the 20901/20902 Mumbai Central – Gandhinagar Capital – Mumbai Central route, is designed to alleviate the congestion seen on this highly sought-after service, which often sees occupancy rates surpassing 150%.

The existing 16-coach configuration of the train offers a total of 1,128 seats, including 104 seats in 2 Executive Chair Car (EC) coaches and 1,024 seats across 14 AC Chair Car (CC) coaches. In this setup, the two end coaches, C1 and C14, each provide 44 seats, while the twelve intermediate coaches (C2 to C13) each have 78 seats. This arrangement has been instrumental in accommodating the high volume of passengers on the Mumbai-Gandhinagar route.

The introduction of the new 20-coach rake not only retains the two EC coaches but also increases the AC Chair Car coaches to 18. This adjustment means two coaches, C1 and C18, will have 44 seats each, while the remaining sixteen coaches, C2 to C17, will each offer 78 seats. This expansion raises the total seating capacity significantly, offering more passengers the opportunity to experience the modern features and comforts of the Vande Bharat Express on this bustling corridor.

This development is part of Indian Railways' broader strategy to enhance passenger experience and operational efficiency on its network. The Vande Bharat Express, known for its state-of-the-art design and faster travel times, represents a leap forward in India's rail transport capabilities. By increasing the train's capacity, Indian Railways aims to meet the high demand and ensure a more comfortable journey for its passengers traveling between Mumbai and Gandhinagar.

The decision to deploy the longest-ever Vande Bharat rake on the Mumbai-Gandhinagar route reflects Indian Railways' commitment to leveraging advanced technology and infrastructure to improve service quality. As the railway network continues to evolve, such initiatives are crucial for accommodating growing passenger numbers and maintaining high standards of service. This move showcases the railway's proactive approach to addressing the needs of its passengers and enhancing the overall rail travel experience in India.
