The Ministry of Railways is gearing up for a whirlwind of changes in its 100-day plan following the Lok Sabha polls of 2024. Aiming to enhance passenger experience and infrastructure, Indian Railways is set to roll out several initiatives, including a new 24-hour ticket refund scheme and the introduction of sleeper versions of Vande Bharat trains.

Among the key focus areas outlined in Indian Railways' 100-day roadmap is the initiation of the PM Rail Yatri Bima Yojna insurance scheme for passengers. This scheme is designed to provide insurance coverage to railway passengers and ensure their safety during travel.
Additionally, Indian Railways plans to launch a comprehensive "super app" that will offer a wide range of services to passengers, including ticketing and train tracking. This app aims to streamline the passenger experience by providing a one-stop solution for all railway-related tasks.
One of the significant changes proposed by Indian Railways is the implementation of a 24-hour ticket refund scheme, which will replace the existing three-day process. This move is expected to simplify the refund process for passengers, allowing them to receive refunds for train ticket cancellations within a shorter timeframe.
Furthermore, the government is seeking cabinet approval for three economic corridors spanning over 40,900 kilometers, requiring an investment of Rs 11 lakh crore. These economic corridors are expected to boost connectivity and promote economic growth across the country.
Moreover, plans are underway to operate trains from Jammu to Kashmir upon the completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramula Rail Link project. This project includes the construction of the Chenab bridge, which is set to be the world's highest railway bridge, as well as the Anji Khad bridge, Indian Railways' first cable-stayed bridge.
Additionally, efforts will be made to expedite the bullet train project, with a focus on operationalizing approximately 320 kilometers of the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train stretch by April 2029.
In line with its commitment to infrastructure development, Indian Railways plans to launch sleeper versions of Vande Bharat trains. The first prototype of the Vande Bharat sleeper train is currently under construction and is expected to be operational within six months.
Another significant development is the inauguration of India's first vertical-lift bridge, the Pamban railway bridge, connecting the mainland with Rameswaram. This bridge will restore train services between Mandapam and Rameswaram, which were halted in December 2022 due to safety concerns regarding the existing rail bridge.
With these ambitious plans and initiatives, Indian Railways aims to revolutionize rail travel in the country and provide passengers with a safer, more convenient, and enjoyable experience.
